Commissioned by Sweco, TerraCarta conducted a large-scale cable and pipeline survey in June 2015 under the Underground Networks Information Exchange Act (WIBON). The goal of this project was to determine the exact locations of culverts, directional drillings, and cables and pipelines near approximately 80 bridges, 5 locks, and 100 pumping stations managed by the Province of South Holland.
The WION requires government agencies and utility network operators to prevent damage caused by excavation by sharing and managing accurate information about underground infrastructure. TerraCarta’s study focused on meeting these legal requirements and providing up-to-date, reliable data to the province.
During this project, TerraCarta utilized advanced detection techniques, including ground-penetrating radar, radio detection, and a probe. These methods make it possible to map cables and pipelines with high precision, even in hard-to-reach locations. The collected data was digitally surveyed and processed into detailed drawings that meet the province’s requirements.
Within a six-month timeframe, TerraCarta successfully mapped all cables and pipelines around the bridges, locks, and pumping stations. Thanks to a combination of innovative techniques and our expertise in cable and pipeline surveys, the project was completed to the full satisfaction of both Sweco and the Province of South Holland.
The result is a comprehensive and up-to-date dataset that not only complies with the WION guidelines but is also valuable for future maintenance and construction projects within the province.
