Underground construction involves more than just technical execution. The risks are high, both in terms of safety and finances. Think of the construction of tunnels, grout anchors or the deepening of waterways – For such work at great depths, it is crucial to know exactly where cables and pipelines lie. Often these are cables and pipelines laid deep underground such as directional drilling (HDD) or culverts. TerraCarta offers various solutions for mapping such pipelines such as gyroscopy, lancing but despite this, challenges remain that cannot be solved with these techniques. With the TerraProbe a patented solution, these challenges can be met effortlessly. Where traditional techniques failed at depths above 10 to 15 meters, or in situations with gravel layers at great depths, with the TerraProbe there is no limit anymore.

What is the
TerraProbe?
The TerraProbe is a measuring instrument developed by TerraCarta that is pressed vertically into the ground (probing). As soon as a signal is picked up about the location of the cable or pipe, the probing stops to prevent damage. Then another probing is performed. During this process over multiple probings, accurate data is collected about the location of underground infrastructure. Thanks to our patented technology, it is now possible to flawlessly locate and map pipelines at great depths. In doing so, we are breaking through the boundaries of traditional detection methods.
Revolutionary application
on the job
A striking example of the power of TerraProbe can be found at the Maasvlakte, during the widening of the Yangtze Canal. For this project, we accurately imaged a directional drilling of Stedin at a depth of 35.5 meters. This measurement allowed grout injection anchors to be placed safely, without risk of damage or delay. This collaboration between TerraCarta, Van Oord-Hakkers-De Klerk, Port of Rotterdam and Stedin is a textbook example of how deep understanding of the subsurface leads to safe and efficient execution.
